Team LM brave the elements to finish 7th in Seoul

It was so rainy here! The finals went ahead in horrible conditions, with the
rain pouring down and the lightning probably only helping the situation as it
was very dark outside. There has been some really impressive volleyball
played here and the pace of the women’s game is getting turned up. It’s
great watching the speed and power of the top teams and the conviction they
put into winning their games.
We came away with a 7th place this week with two wins on the first day, one
against Georgia (they’re Brazilians that play as Georgians so they don’t have
to suffer through the Brazilian country quotas every week), who played very
aggressively. We were solid enough to neutralize them and get a good two
set win.
Our second match was a good three set victory over the Mexicans. I was a
little shaky in the second set, but managed to get on top of the situation and
come back with an aggressive third set win.
Round three and once more, we had the number one seeds Juliana and
Larissa from Brazil. We’ve played them twice now this year, so the next time
we get them it has to go our way… They beat us in two sets and we didn’t
put our best game forward. Back to the training court to make some changes
and improve if we want to beat them next time.
We then had a great win against Cuba who had been playing well this event.
It was an enjoyable match to play and we came up with the goods at the end
of the second set to seal the win.
Our last match put us against Rachel and Tyra from the USA. They played a
solid smart game and took us down in two sets. It was a disappointing loss
but we know where we are at and have a positive out look on where we are
going. It’s all hard work from here on in and there’s simply no other way to
do it. Off to Osaka now for the next FIVB event.
