Conviction in our goals and products
We love it when our staff love working at LM, when they believe in what we do and how we do it. We have a narrow suite of investment products on offer because we are very clear and focused about who we are, and what we want to achieve. It's been our experience that staff who have a strong affinity with our business plan goals and general operating ethos, tend to fit in well right from the start.
A high achievement drive/results oriented
LM is structured into separate teams (or departments) that focus on lending, property services, compliance, accounting, IT, legal, marketing, communication and funds administration. Each department works towards achieving set benchmarks or targets.
Each month, the whole company gets together and the results of the prior month's activities are measured against the targets. Our result measurement system (or what we call, 'Business Unit Measurement' or B.U.M) is simple but extremely effective.
So, while our culture values balance and a sense of fun, LM takes the business of being an international fund manager seriously and has measures in place to facilitate staff accountability.
Excellent communication and team skills
Like any business, LM is a business comprised of people and unless there is regular and open communication in and across teams, quite literally, 'the wheels will fall off'.
At LM, we believe that it's not enough to be simply technically good at what you do: you also need to be able to communicate effectively, lead by example, encourage lateral thinking and problem solving, and work as part of a motivated team.
A strong sense of ethics
This is a non-negotiable criterion for working at LM. Unethical behaviour is not accepted or tolerated. As a consequence, ethics is a fundamental quality we seek in all employees.
A sense of humour
When guests visit LM, they often comment on the 'good vibe' in our offices, and refer to the frequency of staff 'laughing out loud'. While we take our charter of prudently managing investors' money seriously, we don't take ourselves as seriously. Candidates with a well developed sense of humour (no matter how 'dry'!), will fit in well at LM.
